AN INQUIRING MIND

Psychology Forensic The Justice System

I’ve discovered a new passion, proving that you’re never too ‘old’ or middle-aged in my case, to find new loves (not of the romantic variety either, at least, not in my case). Since being in college, I’ve developed a real interest in learning about new subjects. Nothing unusual about that,  but I was denied this opportunity when I was back in High School having been told by my teachers that I ‘wasn’t clever enough’. My current term with my present college ends late this summer, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

I recently applied to do a new course, at the same college, in Psychology, Forensics and The Justice System, and I found out today that I’ve been accepted. I am so thrilled! It’s only part-time and at an elementary level, but it will give me the experience to decide whether I want to follow this up with a more advanced qualification. The course doesn’t start until next January, and I’m itching to get started already. I wonder whether I’ll finally develop a liking for Judge Judy or Judge Rinder, of television fame.

Not content with that, I want to fill the Autumn Term gap with learning about another interest of mine, a short evening course (now the evenings are lighter), in hearing loss and British Sign Language. Although I don’t have any hearing loss, my Mum, when she was alive, struggled with this. British Sign Language has always fascinated me, ever since I was young when I learned the deaf alphabet on my fingers. It would be good to develop that a bit more. I think I’ll enjoy that.

I do realise that I am very fortunate in having the spare time to follow some of my ‘dreams’. Dreams may seem like a big word when describing something as ordinary as education. However, I’ve never really hanckered after travelling the world, marrying a rich man or becoming Prime Minister. My dream, simply, is to fulfil my potential which was denied to me when I was growing up … so, here I am at very lively age of sixty finally achieving those dreams.

  1. Congratulations Ellie! ☺️
    This is great news.
I live in India and for millions here, a good education is a distant dream. So I know its value and I am glad you get to live your dream.
Psychology, Forensics and The Justice System sound really interesting. I am sure you would enjoy the course.
    To dreams, cheers!
    Best,
    Ashwini 💚

    1. Thanks very much for your encouragement, Aswini.

I realise I am very lucky to have not only the desire to follow my dreams but the time and the opportunity to do so. It must be very frustrating to be living in countries where I know a good education is denied to many.

I’m nearly coming to the end of my current course; that’s been brilliant and I’ve learned a lot from that. I’m sooo looking forward to my new one 🙂

Looking forward to your next post too, Aswini.

      Love Ellie ❤

  2. Splendid stuff, Ellie. Delighted for you! It sounds as though you are going to be onnd don’t worry, it’s not compulsory to watch Judge Judy for your course.

    1. Thanks, Mick. I think I’ll enjoy my new course when it starts. Glad I don’t have to follow Judge Judy’s every move! I always preferred Judge Rinder anyway (not that I actually get a lot of time to watch TV) 😉 He was one of my Mum’s favourites too. Ellie x

  3. Never too old! That is wonderful, I am in my thirties and have recently been discovering that I am interested in things I previously thought were “not my thing”. It is exciting to get involved in something new and fresh! Good luck to you!

    1. Thank you for stopping to comment and follow my blog. I don’t think we ever stop learning, changing and evolving. And I consider age no barrier to being able to improve our lives in some little (or big) way if the desire is truly there. Change has to come from inside us if we really want it to happen. I count myself very lucky in that although I am physically disabled and have mental health issues, I am still making progress in my life, still growing and still (and always will be) travelling forwards … Ellie x

  4. Ellie! I have been out of the loop I am way behind on blogs! I am slowly very very slowly catching up. Congratulations! I am excited for you!Very excited! Way to go! You will rock it! I believe in you! You will ace any course you do because you are cleve and intelligent! I hope the courses are all great. And I hope you enjoy every second of them. xoxoxo love, carol anne ❤

    1. Hi Carol anne. Don’t worry – I’ve been off the radar for a bit too. I’m just so busy at the moment, I haven’t even posted about going away for a few days on my own – twice! I still haven’t been able to catch up with all my fellow blogger’s posts yet – I’m way behind!

Thanks for your confidence in me. I’m looking forward to making progress, but at the moment I’ve hardly got time to breathe! I’ll catch up eventually, I guess. Love Ellie xxx ❤
